Apple announced a significant manufacturing evolution, confirming the cases for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch Series 11 are now being created using 3D printing. The new process utilizes 100 percent recycled aerospace-grade titanium powder, which cuts raw material usage by nearly half compared to previous forging methods. This additive manufacturing technique is a core part of Apple's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality across its supply chain by 2030. The company estimates this change will save over 400 metric tons of raw titanium in 2025 alone. The advanced technique involves building each watch case layer by layer, fusing the titanium powder with lasers for durability. This innovation not only supports Apple's environmental goals but also allows for greater design flexibility. The same 3D printing technology is also being applied to produce the ultra-thin yet durable USB-C port enclosure for the new iPhone Air.
