Apple announced that its new Apple Watch Ultra 3 and titanium Apple Watch Series 11 models will feature cases made with a 3D-printing process. The company is using 100% recycled aerospace-grade titanium powder, which supports its broader goal to be carbon neutral by 2030. This marks a major change in Apple's manufacturing strategy for the popular wearable. The new additive manufacturing technique significantly reduces material waste compared to the traditional method of carving cases from a solid block of metal. Apple estimates the process will save over 400 metric tons of raw titanium in 2025 alone. While the external appearance of the watches remains familiar, the new method allows for internal design refinements that were not previously possible. This shift is seen as a potential indicator of Apple's future hardware manufacturing strategy, which could eventually be applied to other major products like the iPhone and Mac. On another note for the day, Apple's digital ID feature in the Wallet app is expanding, becoming available to residents of Illinois starting November 19th.
