A U.S. federal jury ordered Apple to pay more than $5.7 billion to San Diego-based Taction Technology for infringing two patents related to haptic feedback. The verdict is reportedly the largest of its kind in U.S. history. It concerns Apple's Taptic Engine, which creates vibration sensations in iPhones and Apple Watches.

The jury found that Apple used Taction's patented technology without permission, but did not find the infringement willful. Taction filed the lawsuit in 2021.

Apple strongly disagrees with the verdict, says it does not use Taction's technology, and plans to appeal.
