Air New Zealand adds over 7,000 seats between Shanghai and Auckland. This caters to strong demand during the Chinese New Year period.

From January 23 to February 20, 2027, the airline will increase service to 10 return flights per week. This move supports New Zealand's tourism sector and provides more cargo capacity for exporters.

Chief Commercial Officer Scott Wilkinson states the capacity increase is a deliberate strategy to capitalize on the peak travel season.

This expansion forms part of a broader network growth in 2026. This growth includes the resumption and launch of several other international routes, significantly increasing long-haul options from Christchurch.
