Amazon is actively defending its commitment to its Climate Pledge goals during New York Climate Week, even as it moves forward with plans for a major natural gas plant. The company has recently promoted its sustainability efforts, including co-founding a fashion coalition to advance sustainable materials and releasing a report indicating that Climate Pledge signatories are reducing emissions faster than their peers.

However, the company is facing questions over its investment in fossil fuel infrastructure while simultaneously publicizing its goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Earlier in the week, Amazon released a study highlighting that its carbon-free energy projects contributed nearly $11 billion to the U.S. GDP between 2023 and 2025, underscoring its significant investments in renewable energy.
