Corpay Inc. and CEO Ronald Clarke agreed to pay $100 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) administrative action. The settlement resolves a 2019 lawsuit alleging the company deceptively marketed its fuel cards.
The FTC claimed Corpay, formerly known as FleetCor, charged customers hundreds of millions of dollars in unauthorized and hidden fees. The complaint stated the company misrepresented fuel savings and billed for services without customer consent.
Regulators also alleged Corpay charged improper late fees to customers who paid on time. A federal court granted summary judgment in favor of the FTC on all counts in 2023.
The $100 million settlement will provide redress to affected business customers.
