Jim Swartz, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria, stated that outdated gas pipeline infrastructure primarily obstructs developing the country's gas reserves.

Swartz spoke at the Nigeria International Energy Summit 2026 in Abuja. He emphasized that these constraints limit gas supply to domestic markets for power generation and fertilizer production. The constraints also restrict export via the West African Gas Pipeline.

The infrastructure challenge threatens Nigeria's goal of increasing oil and gas output. Chevron remains committed to long-term investments in the country, including new drilling activities. Swartz warned that unreliable gas transportation could stifle Nigeria's ability to monetize resources and meet energy demands.
