Google agreed to pay $135 million to settle a class-action lawsuit. Users alleged the Android operating system collected cellular data without permission.

The preliminary settlement was filed in a federal court in San Jose, California. It awaits a judge's approval. The lawsuit covers Android device users dating back to November 2017. Plaintiffs claimed Google collected cellular data even when apps were closed or location sharing was disabled.

Google denied any wrongdoing as part of the proposed settlement. The company must enhance disclosures about its data practices. Google must also obtain user consent during phone setup.
