Alphabet's Waymo is reportedly testing an in-car conversational AI assistant powered by Google's Gemini model. The feature, discovered through a detailed system prompt in Waymo's mobile app, is designed to act as a "friendly and helpful AI companion" for passengers.

The assistant, referred to as the "Waymo Ride Assistant," would be able to answer passenger questions and provide information to enhance the ride experience. The system is designed to maintain a clear distinction between the AI assistant's role and the separate autonomous driving technology, which is referred to as the "Waymo Driver."
