IBM and Lockheed Martin are establishing a quantum innovation hub in Switzerland in partnership with the research university ETH Zurich.

This collaboration is part of a defense offset agreement with armasuisse, Switzerland's defense procurement agency.

The hub will feature Switzerland's first on-premises IBM Quantum System Two. Installation is scheduled for late 2026 at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). IBM will operate the system. It will feature IBM's advanced 120-qubit Nighthawk r2 processor.

This initiative will provide Swiss academic and commercial organizations with access to quantum computing resources to accelerate research. The partnership will also focus on joint development projects between IBM and Lockheed Martin. These projects include quantum sensing for navigation and improving additive manufacturing.
