Mastercard, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, and Google launched Google Pay for debit and credit cardholders in Sri Lanka. Commercial Bank is the first in the country to offer this service to Mastercard users.
The service enables contactless payments via NFC-enabled Android smartphones at global Mastercard-accepting locations. Tokenization technology replaces card numbers with secure digital tokens to protect transaction data.
The initiative addresses growing Sri Lankan demand for faster digital transactions in retail, dining, and online shopping.
