Instagram, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, is reportedly developing a new feature that would allow users to remove themselves from another person's "Close Friends" list. Currently, users who are added to a list do not have the ability to leave it unless they unfollow or block the account creator. This change would offer a new layer of privacy and control for users on the platform.

The feature was discovered through leaked screenshots which show an option to "Leave Close Friends list" in a menu when viewing a Close Friends story. A confirmation prompt would reportedly warn the user that they will no longer see that person's exclusive content and would need to be added back manually if they change their mind. The move is seen as a way to allow users to quietly opt out of content circles they did not ask to be a part of.
