Meta has announced the global expansion of advertisements on its Threads platform, with the rollout beginning next week and continuing gradually over the coming months. The move marks a significant step in monetizing the text-based social app, which has grown to over 400 million monthly active users. The global launch follows initial ad tests in select markets, including the U.S. and Japan, that began about a year ago.

Ads will appear in the main feed between posts and will support various formats, including images, videos, and carousels. Advertisers can integrate Threads into their existing Meta campaigns through the Advantage+ program or manual placements, allowing them to use the same tools and creative assets as they do for Facebook and Instagram. Meta has stated that ad delivery will initially be low to gauge user response and will be accompanied by the same brand safety and verification tools available on its other platforms.
