Australia's Federal Court has dismissed an application by Meta Platforms to throw out a lawsuit from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The ACCC alleges that Meta engaged in misleading conduct by publishing scam cryptocurrency advertisements on Facebook. This ruling marks Meta's second unsuccessful attempt to have the case dismissed, allowing the consumer watchdog's novel claim of Meta's accessorial liability to proceed. The lawsuit pertains to advertisements that allegedly used images of Australian celebrities to promote cryptocurrency scams.
