Meta is laying off approximately 600 employees from its Meta Superintelligence Labs division in a move to streamline operations and accelerate decision-making. The announcement was made by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang in a memo to staff. The cuts are aimed at legacy AI infrastructure, the Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) unit, and various product teams. The restructuring is intended to make the AI division more efficient, with Wang stating that a smaller team will require fewer conversations to make decisions and allow individuals to have a greater impact. Affected employees have been placed on a non-working notice period through November 21 and will receive severance packages. The company has also set up a team to help them find other roles within Meta.
