Thirty-five state attorneys general (AGs) have called on Meta to enforce its advertising policies more strictly. The bipartisan coalition demands the removal of misleading AI-generated ads for weight loss drugs across Facebook and Instagram.

Led by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, the AGs argue these promotions use fake AI-generated images and spokespeople. The ads promote unapproved and potentially unsafe products, exploiting consumer insecurities.

The AGs urge Meta to restrict prescription drug advertisements solely to those approved by the FDA. They also mandate clear disclosure of risks and side effects for all weight loss product promotions.

This collective action signals growing regulatory scrutiny over AI use in advertising on Meta’s platforms. Failure to address the concerns could lead to stricter content moderation policies or potential legal challenges.
