The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its preliminary investigation into Stellantis after the company recalled approximately 1.08 million Jeep vehicles over underhood fire risks. The agency opened the probe in September 2024 after reports of fires in vehicles parked with the ignition off.

Issued in June 2026, the recall covers 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models built between mid-2020 and late 2024. Stellantis traced the issue to an electrical connection in the hydraulic power steering pump wiring that could overheat and cause a fire.

NHTSA said the recall addresses the vehicles and conditions covered by its investigation. The agency will continue to monitor the situation.
