United Airlines Holdings Inc (UAL) announced an expansion of its transatlantic network for the summer of 2026, introducing new nonstop routes from its Newark hub to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This move will increase United's transatlantic destinations to 46 cities, more than any other U.S. airline. The airline will also maintain several seasonal routes to destinations in Portugal, Mongolia, Greenland, and Mexico, among others. In separate news on the same day, United received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for its first mainline Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with Starlink high-speed internet. Following these announcements, shares of United Airlines jumped 1.8% in the afternoon trading session. Market analysis suggests the news was considered meaningful by investors, though not fundamentally changing the perception of the business.
