United Airlines Flight 803, a Boeing 777-200 bound for Tokyo, experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Washington Dulles International Airport (Dulles) on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The aircraft landed safely back at Dulles. No injuries were reported among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members aboard.

United Airlines confirmed the incident stemmed from a technical issue with one engine. The carrier arranged for passengers to continue their journey on a different aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified. The agency announced it will conduct an investigation into the cause of the engine failure.
