BYD is decentralizing its Automotive Engineering Research Institute in a major restructuring effort. The company will split its core engineering division into five autonomous research centers. These units will serve the Dynasty, Ocean, Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang brands. Each brand-specific center will gain independent control over product definition and vehicle planning.
The move follows a 20% decline in sales volume during the first five months of 2026. BYD aims to eliminate internal product overlap and improve efficiency by shifting engineering decisions closer to consumer market channels.
The new structure mirrors a framework used by competitor Geely. Brand portfolios will now operate under a self-financing directive to improve financial accountability.
