American Airlines and four other carriers agreed to terms for a 10.5-year lease extension at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). CLT is a critical hub for American Airlines.

The deal runs from January 2027 through June 2037. It includes $3 billion in combined rent and fees from the airlines. These funds would finance $2.1 billion in airport expansion projects.

The Charlotte City Council received the proposal. The Council expects to vote on the agreement in December.

Securing this long-term lease is significant for American. The airline accounts for 90% of air travel at CLT. CLT is one of the busiest airports in North America.

The previous 10-year lease was set to expire in June 2026.
