Apple formally challenges a UK antitrust decision seeking to overturn a £1.5 billion ruling. The original finding concluded the company overcharged millions of App Store users.
Apple has asked the Court of Appeal to review the case. This action follows the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal’s rejection of its initial appeal request in November.
The original ruling, issued in October, concluded Apple abused its dominant market position. Specifically, Apple charged excessive commissions up to 30% on App Store transactions between 2015 and 2024.
The case originated as a collective action on behalf of approximately 36 million UK consumers. If the ruling is ultimately upheld, these consumers could be eligible for compensation.
