Apple announced an expansion of cross-border Apple Pay capabilities for users in mainland China. This feature allows customers to use locally issued Visa cards for international payments while traveling.
The launch includes support from eight major Chinese banks. These institutions specifically include the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Bank of China. Apple expects more financial institutions to add support in the coming months.
This move aims to make international travel more seamless and secure for Chinese customers. Jennifer Bailey, Apple's Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, stated the goal is to give users confidence in their payments abroad. Mastercard is also working on launching similar support.
