Apple is reportedly diversifying its camera sensor suppliers, potentially partnering with Samsung for the iPhone 18 camera system. This move aligns with Apple's ongoing strategy to diversify its supply chain for critical hardware components. The new sensors are anticipated to improve photo quality, particularly in low-light conditions.

To facilitate this production, Samsung is investing $19 billion to expand its Austin operations. The sensors will be built at Samsung's facility in Austin, Texas. The iPhone 18 will be the first model to feature these new three-layer stacked sensors.

Production is scheduled to begin in March. The iPhone 18 is expected to launch in the first half of 2027.
