Author Elizabeth Lyon filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against Adobe, alleging the company used a pirated dataset to train its SlimLM artificial intelligence model.

The suit claims the training data included the controversial 'Books3' collection, which contains unauthorized copies of numerous works, including Lyon's. The dataset allegedly comprises nearly 200,000 copyrighted books.

This legal challenge places Adobe among major tech companies, such as Apple and Salesforce, that have faced similar allegations regarding AI training data sources. The lawsuit highlights the growing legal scrutiny over copyright infringement in the development of generative AI technologies. Adobe has not yet publicly commented on the allegations.
