Reports emerged on January 18, 2026, that AMD is reducing production of its Radeon RX 9070 graphics card. AMD will prioritize the more profitable Radeon RX 9070 XT model instead.
This strategic shift responds directly to rising memory prices. The price increases make the lower-margin, non-XT version less economically favorable to produce.
The move mirrors a strategy adopted by competitor NVIDIA. NVIDIA is also prioritizing graphics cards that offer better profit margins amid limited and more expensive memory supplies.
AMD is not halting production of the standard Radeon RX 9070 entirely. However, its share of total shipments is expected to decrease as manufacturing capacity is reallocated to the higher-end XT variant.
