Amazon began distributing payments totaling $2.5 billion to millions of U.S. customers. This action settles a case with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC found Amazon's Prime subscription service too simple to join and overly complicated to cancel. Refunds are being sent via paper checks or digital transfers.

Distribution of refunds started in early 2026. Later this year, Amazon expects to establish a formal claims process. This process will handle subsequent disbursement rounds for individuals who believe they are eligible but have not yet received payment.
