Amazon announced plans to install over 300 ground-based gateway stations globally for its satellite internet service, Leo (formerly Project Kuiper). The company made the disclosure during the recent AWS re:Invent conference.

This infrastructure buildout is a critical step designed to compete directly with SpaceX's Starlink for worldwide satellite internet customers.

The gateway stations will relay data between the Leo satellites and ground-based fiber networks. This system aims to provide robust and high-speed internet service.

The large-scale deployment allows Amazon to rapidly scale the service and challenge Starlink's established market presence.
