Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos has been summoned by a court in Ambala, India. The case concerns allegations that a third-party product sold on the platform contained controlled substances.
The complaint centers on 'Bala Churna,' a product manufactured by Divya Pharmacy. The product allegedly contained ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, substances regulated under India’s NDPS Act.
An athlete filed the complaint in November 2024, claiming his health deteriorated after purchasing the product via Amazon in 2019. The summons names 14 individuals, including yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna of Patanjali, the company associated with Divya Pharmacy. All defendants are directed to appear on April 13.
