Amazon unexpectedly ceased its commercial drone delivery program in Italy just days before the planned launch in San Salvo.

The company attributed the halt to a strategic review. Amazon stated that Italy’s current business regulatory framework does not support its long-term objectives for the program.

The move surprised Italy's national civil aviation authority, ENAC. ENAC was responsible for implementing the drone traffic management system, known as U-space, for the launch.

This decision follows Amazon's scaling back of planned drone delivery operations in the UK in late 2025. The pattern suggests broader challenges regarding regulatory environments and the implementation of drone services across Europe.
