Amazon has introduced Kindle Translate, an AI-powered service designed to help independent authors on its Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform reach a global audience. The new feature, currently in beta, allows authors to translate their eBooks into different languages, addressing a significant barrier for self-published writers wanting to enter international markets. The service will initially support translations between English and Spanish, and from German to English. Less than 5% of the titles currently on Amazon.com are available in more than one language, highlighting a substantial opportunity for authors to connect with new readers. Authors can manage the entire translation process through the KDP portal, including setting prices and publishing the translated versions. Amazon has stated that the system generates fully formatted translations within a few days, giving authors the option to review the text or have it published automatically. This initiative is part of Amazon's ongoing efforts to support independent authors on its platform.
