A bipartisan U.S. bill, the MATCH Act, is creating uncertainty for ASML by proposing a ban on sales and servicing of its chip-making equipment in China. Calls for the bill’s passage have renewed ahead of fall 2026. It aims to close loopholes that let Chinese firms buy older deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems.
If enacted, the bill would halt future DUV machine sales and prevent ASML from servicing equipment already installed in China, potentially disrupting Chinese semiconductor manufacturing. China was ASML’s largest market in 2025, accounting for about a third of its revenue. The proposed restrictions specifically target major Chinese companies, including SMIC and Huawei.
