Shares of Aura Minerals jumped 10.1% to $90.80 after the Latin American gold and copper miner reported preliminary Q3 production that shattered its own records. The question now: whether the operational momentum justifies a stock that has more than tripled in the past year — or whether investors are paying too much for a good quarter.
Three Mines Did the Heavy Lifting
Q3 output hit 95,557 gold-equivalent ounces (GEO), up 27% from Q2 and 29% year-over-year. The gains were concentrated: MSG production surged 85% sequentially as underground development advanced , Borborema climbed 60% on higher grades and throughput , and Aranzazu rose 39%, reflecting higher grades and favorable metal prices.
Minosa and Almas, however, declined quarter-over-quarter , a reminder that not every asset is firing.
The Math Works — Barely — for Full-Year Guidance
Management's full-year target is 340,000–390,000 GEO.
Nine-month output stands at 253,131 GEO , meaning Aura needs roughly 87,000–137,000 GEO in Q4 to hit the range. CEO Rodrigo Barbosa said he expects "a further increase" in Q4 , and the midpoint looks achievable if Q3's pace holds. But hitting the top end would require another record — a tall order when two of six mines are underperforming.
Gold Prices Help, but They Cut Both Ways
Gold traded around $4,187 per ounce on October 9 , well off its all-time high of $5,608 reached in January 2026 . Higher gold prices mechanically inflate GEO figures because Aura converts copper and silver output into gold-equivalent terms. At constant metal prices, Q3 growth was 25% year-over-year versus the 29% headline number — still strong, but the gap shows that price alone added several percentage points of apparent growth.
Valuation Is Getting Crowded
The stock trades at roughly 24× trailing earnings with a market cap near $7.4 billion — a steep premium for a mid-tier miner. Shares have gained about 143% over the past twelve months.
Aura recently declared a special dividend and launched a $200 million buyback , signaling management confidence, but investors should weigh whether the stock already prices in the upside from the company's longer-term ambition to exceed 600,000 GEO annually.
