AstraZeneca terminated its Phase III eVOLVE-Lung02 clinical trial for volrustomig combined with chemotherapy. The study evaluated the regimen as a first-line treatment for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in patients with low PD-L1 expression.
An independent committee concluded the trial was unlikely to meet primary goals for progression-free or overall survival. This outcome represents a setback for a drug intended to help meet the company’s ambitious long-term revenue targets.
The combination treatment showed no new safety concerns during the study. AstraZeneca will continue other Phase III trials for volrustomig in cervical and head and neck cancers as planned.
