The U.S. Department of Defense added Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD to its list of Chinese military companies. This designation falls under Section 1260H of the National Defense Authorization Act.

The Pentagon identifies these firms as supporters of China’s military-civil fusion strategy. While the listing triggers no immediate sanctions, it serves as a formal warning to investors.

The Department of Defense will stop entering or renewing contracts with these companies on June 30, 2026. A broader ban on the indirect procurement of their products takes effect in June 2027.
