Alibaba and ByteDance plan to order Huawei’s new 950PR artificial intelligence chip following successful testing. This shift marks a breakthrough for Huawei in securing large private-sector clients over market leader Nvidia.
The 950PR chip offers improved response speeds and greater compatibility with Nvidia’s CUDA software ecosystem. Huawei aims to ship approximately 750,000 units of the new processor in 2026.
Mass production is scheduled to begin in April. This expansion intensifies competition with Nvidia, which currently faces U.S. export restrictions on advanced AI hardware to China.
