Alibaba Group expanded its artificial intelligence portfolio by launching RynnBrain, a new system from its DAMO Academy research division. The open-source foundation model enables robots to perform complex tasks through environmental understanding, object mapping, and action planning.

This release positions Alibaba in the global competition for leadership in robotics and physical AI. Alibaba reported that RynnBrain achieved strong benchmark results against similar systems from Alphabet’s Google and Nvidia. The strategy aligns with Beijing’s prioritization of robotics for manufacturing and logistics sectors.

Alibaba shares edged higher during early trading on Tuesday following the announcement. The company released the model on platforms like GitHub to encourage widespread adoption within the AI community.
