Bank of America must face key claims in a class-action lawsuit, a federal judge ruled. The suit accuses BofA of knowingly benefiting from Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking activities by providing financial services.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan issued the decision. The ruling permits two claims under federal anti-trafficking law to move forward. It dismisses four other claims, narrowing the scope of the case.

A plaintiff initiated the lawsuit on behalf of herself and other women who accuse Epstein of sexual abuse. The suit alleges major financial institutions continued profitable business relationships despite public awareness of Epstein’s misconduct.

Judge Rakoff dismissed all claims against Bank of New York Mellon in the same ruling. A full written opinion explaining the decision is expected from Judge Rakoff by February 13.
