Bloom Energy slashes AI data center costs $5.5 billion, using DC power

Bloom Energy claims its 800-volt direct current (DC) native power system reduces costs for 1-gigawatt AI data centers. The system could cut the five-year total cost of ownership by $5.5 billion. On-site fuel cells generate 800V DC power to match next-generation AI chip requirements.

Non-compute capital spending accounts for $3.6 billion of the projected savings. This represents a 27% reduction in capital expenditures.

Native DC power eliminates the need for AC-to-DC conversion equipment. The design reduces reliance on transformers and switchgear currently affected by long lead times.
