BHP Group workers at Port Hedland in Western Australia will strike for 24 hours on August 9. The Combined BHP Ports Unions announced the industrial action, which includes a ban on loading ships. The dispute centers on a new enterprise agreement regarding wages and work protections.
This stoppage escalates a previous eight-hour strike held in July. Port Hedland is the world's largest bulk export port. A 24-hour halt could cost BHP approximately $120 million in revenue.
The unions represent about 450 tradespeople and operators. Negotiations between the company and the unions have been ongoing since October 2025.
