A joint venture, including BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners and Italian energy company Eni, completed the installation of the Douglas CCS platform in the UK's Liverpool Bay. The platform is the world's first offshore structure built specifically for industrial carbon capture and storage (CCS).

The platform will serve as the central offshore hub for the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster. It will receive carbon dioxide captured from industrial sites in North West England and North Wales. The platform will then transport the CO2 via repurposed pipelines for permanent storage in depleted natural gas fields under the seabed. This installation brings the broader Liverpool Bay CCS project to roughly 50% completion.
