BMO to launch 24/7 tokenized cash platform, enabling real-time settlements

Bank of Montreal (BMO) is partnering with CME Group and Google Cloud to launch a tokenized cash platform for institutional clients.

The service utilizes Google Cloud’s Universal Ledger and CME Group’s network to convert U.S. dollars into digital tokens.

This platform enables 24/7 fund movement for trade settlements, margin calls, and collateral transfers.

BMO will be the first bank to offer CME Group’s tokenized cash solution on the Google Cloud platform.

The service for regulated financial firms is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Initial access will be limited to mutual clients of BMO and CME Group.
