Berkshire Hathaway is considering increasing its investment in Japan's five largest trading houses. Itochu Chairperson Masahiro Okafuji disclosed the potential move following a September meeting with Berkshire CEO Greg Abel.
The five firms include Itochu, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo. Berkshire currently holds stakes exceeding 10% in each company.
Okafuji indicated that Berkshire may raise its holdings to 15%. The U.S. firm views the Japanese conglomerates as valuable long-term partners.
Berkshire first invested in these companies over six years ago. The firm previously praised their diversified business models for mirroring its own corporate structure.
