Caterpillar signed a strategic agreement with MicroVision to enhance mining fleet autonomy and safety. The deal integrates MicroVision’s 3D digital LiDAR sensors into Caterpillar’s autonomous haulage system (AHS). This partnership follows MicroVision’s January 2026 acquisition of assets from former Caterpillar partner Luminar Technologies.
A Master Development Agreement formalizes the collaboration to improve obstacle recognition and rerouting. These upgrades support trucks operating in mixed fleets alongside manned vehicles.
Each off-highway truck will initially feature two Iris LiDAR sensors. Caterpillar may upgrade these to Halo sensors in the future. Industry analysts identified Caterpillar as the partner despite the company remaining unnamed in MicroVision’s official announcement.
