CoStar Group issued a public statement on March 11, 2026, refuting claims by activist investor D. E. Shaw regarding recent changes to its financial reporting segments. D. E. Shaw asserts that the new structure was designed to obscure the performance of the Homes.com business.

CoStar maintains that it has never reported Homes.com as a standalone segment. The company states the new product-based reporting structure increases transparency by providing detailed financial metrics for both residential and commercial divisions.

In its response, CoStar highlighted that D. E. Shaw holds a 0.22% stake in the company. The investor reportedly holds nearly four times that value in competing real estate firms.

CoStar suggested D. E. Shaw’s agenda may be intended to benefit its other investments. The company has retained Clare Locke, a law firm specializing in defamation cases, to join its team of advisors.
