DoorDash has secured Part 135 air carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This license authorizes the company to operate its own commercial drone delivery service. DoorDash is now one of only eight drone operators in the U.S. to hold this certification.
The new service, branded DoorDash Air, was developed entirely by the company’s internal robotics and autonomy division. Commercial deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026 using custom-built drones.
The initiative targets mid-range deliveries between 3 and 5 miles. This specific distance often presents efficiency challenges for human couriers.
DoorDash Air will supplement the company’s existing human driver network and current partnerships with providers like Alphabet’s Wing. The move intensifies competition within the domestic aerial delivery market.
