Epic Games has delayed an upcoming shooter featuring characters from Disney’s Marvel and Star Wars franchises. Internal communications say developers must adopt an “AI first” production model, with a goal of eliminating hand-written code. AI workflows will generate programming and art assets, which developers will oversee.
The unannounced game is the first major project under a multi-game partnership formalized by Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic in 2024. Progress on the title had reportedly been slower than expected, prompting the shift.
Epic’s communications director described the move as “embracing AI-accelerated development.” CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that a “huge pivot” is underway to retool for “maximum AI acceleration.”
