The Bundesnetzagentur, Germany's digital services regulator, formally requested eBay address alleged violations of the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA). The agency contends the e-commerce platform failed to correctly implement key requirements of the new law, which aims to protect users online.
The regulator identified three main areas of concern. These include procedures for reporting illegal content that fall short of DSA standards. eBay also failed to properly inform users about actions taken against them, such as content removal. The regulator also cited insufficient traceability of traders on the platform. The agency stated that essential contact information for identifying traders is not easily accessible. This hinders consumer protection against fraud.
The Bundesnetzagentur urged eBay to remedy these deficiencies. If eBay fails to comply with the DSA's provisions, the Bundesnetzagentur can impose penalties, including fines.
