GameStop disclosed a 9.8% stake in eBay in a regulatory filing. The filing was submitted on July 17, 2026. GameStop now holds 43.4 million shares.
The company solidified this position by converting derivative contracts into physical shares. This conversion grants GameStop direct voting rights.
The move follows eBay’s rejection of an unsolicited takeover offer in May. The offer valued the e-commerce company at $56 billion. CEO Ryan Cohen is using the voting bloc to intensify pressure on eBay management. Cohen stated he will take the acquisition plan directly to shareholders if necessary.
