EchoStar Corporation CEO Hamid Akhavan resigned his position effective immediately. The departure follows board discussions regarding a change in strategic direction.
The resignation occurs shortly after EchoStar subsidiary Dish DBS filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Founder and Chairman Charlie Ergen will assume all day-to-day leadership responsibilities. Akhavan will serve as a consultant through the end of 2024 to assist the transition.
This leadership change aligns with a broader strategic restructuring of the company.
